We’ve helped local families through their hardest days

For 150 years, Lychgate has helped Wellington families through the hardest days. We’re funeral directors in Wellington City, Johnsonville and Karori.

You’ll get clear guidance, and prices in writing before you decide anything. And a team who treat your family the way we would want ours treated.

Meet the Lychgate Funerals Team

Our funeral directors are all Wellington locals. That means they understand what a Wellington farewell looks like. They listen first and explain your options simply. Then they take care of all the details you should not have to worry about.

Kind words from families we’ve supported

We would rather you heard it from Wellington families than from us.

Venue Options

Our Willis Street chapel in the city seats 110, with room for another 50 standing in the lounge next door. Johnsonville seats 130, with space for about 120 standing. Karori is a quieter option, by appointment. If you’d rather hold the service somewhere that means something to your family, we will arrange it and handle the arrangements.

150 years in Wellington

Lychgate opened in Wellington in 1876. The city has changed almost beyond recognition since then, and so has the way families say goodbye.

One thing hasn’t. A Wellington family can still walk in and be looked after by people who live here too.

From simple arrangements to bespoke services, Lychgate Funerals offer everything you need – all delivered with care, flexibility, and deep local knowledge of the Wellington area.
